1.1 Description of service

YHRD.ORG is Y-Chromosomal STR knowledge base service that allows users to

1. search for Y-STR haplotypes in various formats and within specified national databases and metapopulations.(Search/Haplotypes)
2. retrieve information i.e. STR characteristics, mutations, population genetic analyses etc. (YSTR Loci).
3. generate reliable Y-STR haplotype frequency estimates for Y-STR haplotypes to be used in the quantitative assessment of matches in forensic and genealogical casework (Search/Haplotypes)
4. assess male population stratification among world-wide populations as far as reflected by Y-STR haplotype frequency distributions (Analyse)
5. calculate AMOVA of one self-provied and up to nine populations from the YHRD
6. search for contributing labs (Search/Contributors), their contributions (Search/Contributions) and populations (Search/Populations)

The service includes the website and the email messaging service. The YHRD.ORG service is hosted in Germany. By using the YHRD.ORG Services, you agree to be bound by this Terms, whether you are a "Visitor" (which means that you simply browse the YHRD.ORG Website) or you are a "Member" (which means that you have registered with YHRD.ORG). The term "User" refers to a Visitor or a Member. You are only authorized to use the YHRD.ORG Services (regardless of whether your access or use is intended) if you agree to abide by all applicable laws and to this Agreement. Please read this Agreement carefully and save it. If you do not agree with it, you should leave the YHRD.ORG Website and discontinue use of the YHRD.ORG Services immediately. If you wish to become a Member, communicate with other Members and make use of the YHRD.ORG Services, you must read this Terms and indicate your acceptance during the Registration process. The YHRD.ORG service is restricted initially to 20 searches and 2 AMOVA calculations per day to keep equitable access of our resources within all users. YHRD.ORG reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject, refuse to post or remove any posting/edits by you, or to restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to all or any part of the YHRD.ORG Services at any time, for any or no reason, with or without prior notice, and without liability. YHRD.ORG expressly reserves the right to remove your profile and/or restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to any part of YHRD.ORG Services if YHRD.ORG determines, in its sole discretion, that you pose a threat to YHRD.ORG and/or its Users.

2. Privacy

2.1. Information collection and use

YHRD.ORG collects user submitted information such as name and email address to authenticate users and to send notifications to those users relating to the YHRD.ORG service. YHRD.ORG also collects other profile data including but not limited to: login name, personal photo in order to assist users in finding and communicating with each other. YHRD.ORG also logs non-personally-identifiable information including IP address, profile information, aggregate user data, and browser type, from users and visitors to the site. This data is used to manage the website, track usage and improve the website services. This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third-parties to provide more relevant services and advertisements to members. User IP addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes. User Profile information including members' pictures, name and email address are displayed to people in order to facilitate user interaction. We may also use a user's email address to send updates, a newsletter or news regarding the service. Users may choose not to receive email of this type by removing the appropriate items from "list subscriptions" in the user's "Profile".

2.2. Use of Cookies

YHRD.ORG uses cookies to store visitors' preferences and to record session information, for purposes including ensuring that visitors are not repeatedly offered the same advertisements and to customize newsletter, advertising, and Web page content based on browser type and user profile information. We do not link the information we store in cookies to any personally identifiable information you submit while on our site. You may be able to configure your browser to accept or reject all or some cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set ­– each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences ­– however, you must enable cookies from YHRD.ORG in order to use most functions on the site Please note that YHRD.ORG allows 3rd party advertisers that are presenting advertisements on some of our pages to set and access their cookies on your computer. Advertisers' use of cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not the YHRD.ORG Privacy Policy.

2.3. Links

YHRD.ORG contains links to sites. YHRD.ORG is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. When linking to another site a user should read the privacy policy stated on that site. Our privacy policy only governs information collected on YHRD.ORG.

3. Member account, password and security

You will receive a password and account designation upon completing the Service's registration process. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password and account and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your password or account. You agree to (a) immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security, and (b) ensure that you exit from your account at the end of each session. We cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this Section 3.

4. Member conduct

You understand that all information, data, text, software, music, sound, photographs, graphics, video, messages, tags, or other materials ("Content"), whether publicly posted or included, are the sole responsibility of the person from whom such Content originated. This means that you, and not YHRD.ORG, are entirely responsible for all Content that you upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available via the Service. YHRD.ORG does not entirely control the Content posted via the Service and, as such, does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such Content. You understand that by using the Service, you may be exposed to Content that is offensive, indecent or objectionable. Under no circumstances will YHRD.ORG be liable in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, any errors or omissions in any Content, or any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed, transmitted or otherwise made available via the Service.

6. Changes in our terms

From time to time we may make changes to our terms If we make changes, we will post them on our site to make users aware of what the changes are so users will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and when we may disclose it. A User is bound by any minor changes to the policy when she or he uses the site after those changes have been posted If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner materially different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify by posting a notice on our Web site for 30 days.
